Development remains exciting
DWV Chairman Toepler comments the opening of the H2 Expo in Hamburg

The introduction of hydrogen and fuel cells in the energy system gets closer and closer. This was pointed out by DWV chairman Johannes Toepler yesterday in his speech on occasion of the opening of the hydrogen fair H2 Expo in Hamburg. The explosive development of the number of fairs and conferences can be seen as proof of the rising interest in the topic. Work becomes more and more global, and this is what it should, as Toepler said: „Just imagine that a hydrogen car built in Germany, USA, or Japan can not be operated in the other countries because the connections do not fit.“

Toepler said that there is no reason for euphorism, because there are still important hurdles in the fields of generation, storage, and use. But there is a lot of reason for optimism.

Othe speakers during the opening ceremony were Margareta Wolf, secretary of state in the Federal Ministry for the Environment, and Hamburg's environment senator Michael Freytag. The latter announced that a state initiative for hydrogen and fuel cells will be created in Hamburg.

The Hamburg H2 Expo is held for the fourth time on the Hamburg fair ground. 30 exhibitors from nine countries have rented 2350 m2 to show products and processes related directly or indirectly to hydrogen and fuel cells. DWS is also represented. There is an increasing share of companies with peripheral products like measuring and test systems or catalysts or special chemicals.
